I had been carry my Nikon FM2 when I drop Pume off in the morning. Thought it will nice to take photo of his classmates each year.
I found that taking kid's portrait is very fascinating...not sure why, but they feel so pure and honest. Another interesting found was that
all the boys wearing something that have some kind of "super hero" graphic on it (I can not remember what Pume was wearing under his jacket)

I just wondering how these images will be able to tell the story about their culture now and how these can compare with the one
in the future generation.

i don't remember taking any photo of my kid (or any kid) crying (except when they were born).
May be because seeing them smile and happy make me feel good in general.
Seeing them cry make me want to drop everything and just go hug and hold them right away.
But I did wait a bit this time...taking time to capture that tear...it felt real and human.

I remember dad used to be the one who take a lot of family photos. Now that I have my own family it seem that I am doing just exactly what he did. I have been taking a lot of photo of my kids and now I want to take more photos of my mom, seeing her through the camera give me a different experience than just looking at her through my eyes...especially when she is with my kids.

Pume start picking up drawing a lot again lately. I think since I was on my maternity leave when I have more time to spend with him at home. Before, when he want to draw he always want me to sit and draw with him, but now it seem that he also want to do it on his own. Each day when I pick him up from school he always has at least one drawing in his cubby.

Yesterday I found about 8 pages of his drawing when I went back home. ( I put a stack of empty paper and crayon for him on the table before I leave to work) There are so much of them laying around the house and I think it will be nice to really spend time document those as much as I can.

once upon a time

My teacher, Marla and her editor from Beach Lane Books, Allyn,
was talking at "Once upon a time" children book store in Montrose last night.
It was very inspiring to listen to both of them
and learn the process of making children books.

The story behind " Couple boys had the best weekend ever" made me laugh.
It is a wonderful real story about Marla and Allyn's boys,
I can not help but get that book as a gift for my best friend's son.

The process of making "All The World" made me understand the hard work,
the passion and the fact that how we as an adult, most of the time,
lost our ability to see things as we grow up.
Learning about the intention of Marla on her last image in this book
remind me that when we don't give out specific answer,
it usually leave a lot of room for imagination.

I read this book to Pume last night, and when we reach the end of the book...
me: what that girl has in her hand pume?..I can not see
pume: a yellow star fish!!!
me: really? wow!!! is it big?
pume: it is very very very small (he put his fingers together,
squeeze his eyes try to convince me how tiny the star fish is).
she go there with her daddy...mommy is at home.
pume continue: the girl want to give yellow star fish to mommy when she get home
me: ...smile.. time to sleep little one...

Figure out that taking class will be a good way to help
pushing me stay up (late) to do thing I want to do, so I did.
Otherwise this will only be my dream I wish for.
My first assignment is to develop a character base on a set of words
given from the teacher. Each one of us got different one,
and these are mine:
Boy
Pompous
Dressed like a rock star
Extremely top-heavy as if he was going to tip right over.

He is taller, he talk a lot more, he enjoy food as always,
he love to play his Thai children stories cd every time he sit
at dinner table and eat at home.

He still love his Thomas and all his train friends,
he discover more friends like Bob the builder and Sesame Street,
but never forget his Thomas,Percy and those trains,
he sometime went back to play with his 2 curious George
(he has a clean one and a dirty one:),
but not so much anymore.

He like to tell me a very short (like...there is a cat and there is a mouse,
they meet, the end!) story before we go to bed and
I still have to tell him a made up story each time I brush his teeth.
He ask me a lot about things...everything...
and sometime he surprise me how he can remember something,
someone I never expect him to.

What a wonderful 3 years we have shared.
It is such a magical thing to see you grow up each day, and to be your mom.

me: Thanks pume! I will take James with me on my bike when I ride to work tomorrow.

me: ooh, I will put him in my front basket, so I can keep both of my hand on my bike..no worry :)

It was a first camping trip with Pume. We had so much fun having him with us. It make me wonder if this should be the way kid spend most of there time each day—in nature, running around freely in the wild.....
Pume love to collect rock, stick and leaves. He always have to have something in his hand. We are back now, but already thinking of the next one we can do in fall.

the war againt antibiotic

I can not remember exactly how many time pume already take antibiotic to treat his ear infections, but I know it is already too many, and this time will and have to be the last.
His teeth start to have some grey strain around top part. I don't like antibiotic myself, so with any not necessary medicine in general. I want to kick myself in the butt that I "make" this happen to my little one.

I guess there are so much to learn being a first time mom. We are too protective, we don't want to see our kid hurt and suffer, and don't realize that they are actually tougher than we thought. We are weaken them by our worry.

The way (American) doctors using medicine here is not only harm us and our kid, but make us weak and in the need for more stronger medicine. Our body don't have a chance to learn to heal by itself. We act too fast, we want quick fix and we don't look at thing in a long term. It is sad to say, but we can not rely on the one who we pay to do their job, we can only rely on our self.

Pume has been so into Thomas the tank engine. We took him to the travel town museum. The scale of the real train is so big compare to the toy one he have at home. This must make him so excited!

Catherine gave me a couple of tiny Pomegranates that come out from her big tree from her garden on one of the raining day. At first they have no leaf and we're not sure if they will be survive. I place them near the window at work and see the green leaves showing up each day. They are now strong enough to move to a bigger pot :)

Jimmy gave me this polaroid spectra. It is remind me of the time dad got one when it first coming out. I was around 4 or 5. I remember I got so excited each time he press the thing, it make sound and I see the photo jump out from the camera then slowly the picture appear....magic!!!!

Mom, Tong and Pume went to the market to get some food, I am at home alone working on my pieces for my raku class. My teacher broke my first piece so he allow me to bring some clay back home to work. I have no tools at home, so I end up using my hand and this wooden spoon I have.

It was a lovely Sunday morning. I love being at home making things, let time move slowly and just enjoy with whatever in front of me at that moment.

Happy news for us especially for Tong!
We just found out that he won "one good chair" competition.
He is very happy about it and so do I. Tong have been working hard after work and I am glad that it is moving forward for the thing he love to do. What's next? I don't know...I just want to see he enjoy what he is doing and that can turn to be his full time thing than part time. Hopefully this recognition will give him more energy to continue.

I happen to be away by myself again on Saturday for Jeab's wedding shower in San Diego. Got a ride in with Lydija, Wendy and Bella, but took the train back to LA by myself.
I can not remember I took any train in the US before. It is a bit strange...but nice...
Being by myself for 3 hours with strangers on the train, beside trying to sketch something,I look out the window most of the time, and let my thought move through my head slowly and stop once in a while just like the train itself.
I like the feeling of being alone — among strangers, it make me feel like I am the one who looking and observing. I can concentrate on my thought and don't have to worry about anyone else around me. The train arrived at chatswood station,I was looking for Tong, but unexpectedly, I saw Pume and mom too.
Whatever run through my mine was completely gone, one big smile came right instead, and I forget about everything else seeing them in front of me now :)

It was so nice to get to hang out with friends for a day for chacha's 35 birthday.
I felt a bit weired not having Pume around for a full day. I have all those time just for myself!!! which I can sit down and read, swim in the pool, or just simply chat with my sweet girlfriends...but some how I felt empty...felt like there is something missing...
I miss my little one.

What a hot week last week!!! I think it was actually worse than summer in Thailand!!!
Pume had to stay inside most of the day and only go play outside in the morning and late afternoon. Lot of fruits and drink for Pume to keep him hydrate.

I has been out of the loop with music for so long, especially thai music which I haven't really follow at all since I went to Art Center.
What old music can do to you is that it always bring back memory – place, people, scent and sometime visual.
I used to avoid Thai music when I first came here because it made me miss home, but not anymore except some of the older Thai songs I have a lot of memory with.

อัศนี+วสันต์ are one of the band that has been with me since I was very young....yes...very young! :)
Haven't see them live before even they have been around and very popular for such a long time. Until they come here in LA. There are so many Thai people in one place. I felt like I went back to Bangkok for a night!
It was too loud for Pume, so we end up waiting outside...Pume seem to enjoy the music better from far away :)
Pume is too young to remember I guess, but soon he will create his own memory with music..just like me.

Tor's family already left. The house is now seem too quiet to me.
It has been a very very busy month. I can not remember if I have any chance to really sit down and have a moment to myself for at least a minute (except when I am alone in the restroom)
Although, I miss them and wonder how it will be if we move back to Thailand...so that we can see each other all the time.
Sometime life might be easier and simpler if we don't have too many options {?}

It is nice to see one finish piece among many other ideas he have. Pume chair might be a good start :) to keep him continue. I love to see him passion on thing he enjoy and make that happen....keep it up... :)

Farm house

It has been a while since I join Nokia event that require me to be away from home since I have Pume. We (DSP) went to Santa Barbara for 3 days for team building at Figueroa mountain farmhouse. It is a wonderful place, old farm houses that have only mountain around and some farm animals. At night there are so many stars and one very bright moon...
Some of us end up sleeping outside to enjoy the nature.
I have been with Nokia for quite sometime, but only been with this group for about 2 years.
They are such a wonderful and super talent people I'm feel so privilege I have a chance to work with. On the 2nd night most of us walk up the hill in the dark together, and sat on the top of the mountain under the moon and stars look down to the valley, have I ever feel this peaceful among co-worker like this before?
I feel so fortunate that I can brought Pume with me (with the help of Tong's mom to taking care of him during the day) I know, soon, I will have to be away without him for work, but I want to hold on to this as long as I can.

I still can not believe that Pume is already 1 and I has been a mom for a year!
As soon as Pume exit to my world, my life change...just like other mom's...I guess.
Having him make me feel different, see different and love different
Part of me still stay the way it has been, but other parts make me a different person, the one I never know I will be until I meet him.
People always ask how does it feel to be a mom. I don't seem to be able to find the answer that can really explain that. Only mom know.

time fly

Time seem to pass by so fast Pume will be 1 next week!
He just start walking on his own (7-8 steps the most at the moment) this week which make everyone so excited. He also start copying what Tong and I said a lot, and pretend to be part of our conversation. Having Pume make me enjoy taking photo again. I still love flim, but just got new nikon d80 to play with and hope I will be able to know it well soon. The top photo was taken by my new nikon d80 and the one at the bottom was taken from my long time friend, nikon fm2, which I had for a long long time.

Winter in LA

One thing I like about living in LA is there is always sun shine even in winter month. We went to Malibu creek state park over holiday weekend and it didn't feel like we are just around the conner from the freeway. Winter make it less crowded which is real nice. The creek still have lot of water even in December month. For a moment, it made me miss "home"—the one in Thailand where I grown up — where there are lot of trees, mountain around and farmers walking back from work with their tools at sunset.

In my mail box this afternoon :
I ordered this book after I found an article about "building letters" magazine from Typographic Open Book blog a Thai designer, Anutin, who I don't know in person, but appreciate his seriousness about graphic design and his willingness to share his thoughts and ideas to others.
This magazine caught my attention not because it is about lettering design, but also helps to raise money to those who are in need. More or less I think "Design" can help and we all can be part of those changes....

It was so hot in Woodland Hills. I happened to find out how to make "sun tea" from you grow girl while I was searching for some information for my garden. It is super easy to make, plus we have so many herbs in our backyard, so I decided to make some (this one with mint).We just tested the tea today after dinner and it actually tasted very refreshing with cold ice!

Then I realized that even though it has been so hot this summer, my garden is blooming everywhere Thanks to my mom who has been helping to water my plants everyday, as well as helping me with Pume.

ลืมตามาดูโลกครั้งแรก. พาภูมิไปเที่ยว the getty museum ตอนช่วงเย็น
เพราะอยากให้เค้าคุ้นเคยกับผู้คนอื่นๆและมีโอกาศเรียนรู้โลกภายนอก
นอกจากสิ่งแวดล้อมที่คุ้นเคยที่บ้าน ที่the getty museum เย็นนั้น
มี fishtank ensemble เล่นสดรวมทั้งวงอื่นๆอีกเป็นที่สนุกสนานดี ช่วงท้ายๆภูมิเริ่มงองแงเพราะคงหิวและได้เวลานอนเราเลยทำการเดิน
วนมองหาที่นั่งให้นมจนไปเจอมุม(เกือบ)สงบบริเวณหน้าห้องนำ้.
ให้นมภูมิจนเดี๋ยวนี้เคยชินและไม่กังวลสนใจสายตาผู้คนอีกแล้ว
ตรงกันข้ามเรากลับมีความสุขกับการที่ได้นั่งอยู่ตรงนั้นเงียบๆ

Pume just turned 6 months today (072107) I felt like it just yesterday when I first met him, his first day into this world. We went to the getty museum in the afternoon and watched fishtank ensemble live, which was nice.
Toward the end, Pume was hungry and sleepy, so we went looking for a place, so I can breastfeed him and we finally found a spot in front of the restroom. To breastfeed him in the public has become causal and natural for me these day and I don't care anymore if anyone stares at me, why should I?. On the other hand I sat there and enjoyed my quiet moment with Pume watching people walk in and out of the restroom. It was entertaining.

I first heard about Jon Jandai from Open magazine ( now have only Openonline version)
through his interview about his view of life, how ,we, as humans, bring suffering to ourselves by working so much for nothing and the idea of building an adobe house in Thailand based on his experience when he went to visit New Mexico a while ago. I had a chance to see him again from a Thai TV show on the internet and it brought back many questions I have about life before I head to bed, close my eyes and wake up to live my usual city life.

First question I asked myself when I first started this blog - Should I write in Thai or English?
To be able to get true meaning and feelings of what I try to communicate, I decided to write in Thai even it takes a lot of patience on this English keyboard I have! But after my friend, Pook ,mentioned that my non-Thai friends won't be able to understand this. I decide to also write in English...hey! please try not to make fun of me if you see some misspelling or poor grammar :D

Pume is now in his 6 months already. He is different from when he first was born. (especially his 2 teeth) I miss when he was still so tiny though.
